We are very pleased to be able to invite you to apply for admission to:

The 20. International Wood Sculpture Symposium In Højer 2012.
10th june 2012 - 17th june 2012.                                                                           and
 
The 1. International Wood Sculpture Symposium In Sønderborg 2012.
18th june 2012 - 24th june 2012.

We can invite about 15 sculptors. You can apply for 1 or both symposiums. The invitations will be sent out world-wide. In order to choose the best artists a competent jury will be set up. The selection will be based on your submitted proposal for a sculpture.

 This year all participating artists will get a cash payment of DKK 1500,00 upon arrival and € 300,- by departure time for one symposium. If your join both symposiums you will get another € 500.
In the rules you will see, that the artists are not allowed to make or bring other things for sale in the symposium week. Also NOT make small sculptures for sale during the symposium.

The oak trunks, which will be put at the participants' disposal, were planted at the beginning of 1800 and have various names according to where they have been growing, here in Southern Jutland (Sønderjylland) we call them bridal domes or fleet oaks. – It happened to be so that at that time Denmark was at war with the English fleet, which had gradually burnt down the whole Danish naval fleet. In order to secure enough tree for shipbuilding in the future, the Danish king ordered that all young men, who were to be married, had to plant four oak trees and four beech trees and attend them until they were strong enough to grow by themselves, thereafter he was permitted to get married.
